Endemik

Folklore endemico e/o talento naif

>Corr: can u introduce your label to me. When have you started to make records and why have you decided to run a label.

Scott: Hi. The label is called Endemik Music. We formed in 2001/02. I decided to start a label to release the music friends and myself... i originally started the label with Stigg of the Dump (who is a good friend) and the final decision was made by me when I wanted to see his debut EP released on vinyl to the public... We also wanted to release music that we really love and feel is doing something interesting and different...and to make everyone we involved ourselves with were great people... !

>im thinking about the name: endemik. It means...typical of a specific region, country, places? is it right?

yes... you got it

>this is strange...Do u wanna say that there is a relationship between your city and the music of your label? I mean...a geographical connection, between music and label?

well, that is sorta the main meaning to the label name... I was living in Halifax, Canada with Stigg of the Dump at the time... the hip hop scene at the time and a few years previous were extremely influential on us and our music... People like Buck65, Sixtoo, Knowself, Recylcone were all making very progressive hip hop... and by living in Halifax - the music was a reflection of the city... in a way... I connected with this form of hip hop and it was the similar style we were creating as well... So I felt that endemic was very suiting for a label name... It was a way of giving respects to our peers and forefathers...

>You told me that your father is coming from Italy, so you are close to my country. What do u know of the italian music and what do u think about?

Yes my father is from the province of Treviso - east/north. I am close to Italy and would love to be closer... so beautiful. Honestly, I do not know too much about Italian music... I do know that this man is genius and that I love his music... Ennio Morricone - http://www.enniomorricone.it - I am a big fan of the spaghetti westerns (my father put me on to these at a young age). I now know your band and your music... I would love to know more and more... Soon I will... I know some really bad dance music comes from Italy... haha...

(we have spoken a little about morricone)

>As american, what do u think of "not native language" hip hop. Do u think it make sense? And, im curious, what americans think of this new world language, that sound like english, but it's something new.

I enjoy other language hip hop... some o f really like and some i do not think "sounds" that great... i LOVE a lot of Japanese hip hop.. I have heard some Greek hip hop and thought it sounded amazing... I like when hip hop is made in other countries/languages and within the music they stay close to their cultures and backgrounds... I am not a huge fan of an different language(not north american) with rappers on top of beats that sounds as though they are made in New York... for example...
I have yet to hear an Italian rapper? do you know any?
Also, i really like spanish rapping... !

(we have spoken about italian rappers)

>I've listen a lot of music released by your label. I was impressed by Bleubird and Skyrider. Where do u meet these musicians and why have you decided to produce their music.

I met bleubird in Halifax - he is from Florida, USA. He played a show - I had no idea who he was at the time. he opened up a show I was helping to promote. He came on stage first and blew me away. Teh song that convinced me 100% was a song called "Trooth" - it is on Sloppy Doctor... He performed with so much intensity and sincerity, and you dont see this very often within hip hop... Anyway... I asked him to release and album after this... I emailed him... and he was interested...
I know Skyrider because of Bleubird - they are friends from Florida. Skyrider had two beats on Bleubird's Sloppy Doctor and i was curious about him. I emailed him and asked him to send me some music... he sent me what eventually became and this album blew me ay as well...it was like nothing I had ever heard and something I always wanted to hear.... then i asked him to release music through Endemik
basically, they are two honest artists who are not afraid to be themselves and i respect that so much...

>what does it mean...to be honest musician? pay taxes?

haha, you know honest music mr.nuccini!

>Make sense today speak of alternative hip hop, cause it's really hard to give a definition to it. Can u help me to define this kind of music?
how do u like to call bleubird music?

help you define alternative hip hop... ? i will try, but I do not think I even understand... I guess I would say anything that is alternative to the MTV version of hip hop... of the manufactured sound that is made to sell to 13 year old girls...
I would call Bleubird hip hop... sometimes I say avant hip hop or abstract hip hop... but i like to say hip hop... Bleubirds version of hip hop...

>today, new technologies can help people to make music in so many diifferent ways. It's always much more usual that musicians collaborate and make music without spend time praticing. Or maybe without seen the band memebers. As for example, this is happen with nuccini record, or with zucchini drive prject. What do u think of this situation?

i like and dislike this situation... I like because, nuccini would not have been possible without new technologies... It could have... but people are not always full of money and can travel to record music where ever they like to... i also like it... because without discussing the outcome together... it can really let people feel free to contribute with one another... there is no one watching you or telling you their ideas... it all comes from your heart.... sometimes...
i dislike because it can be amazing working with other artists closely... helping each other come to a final outcome... it can provoke new ideas within one another
it's much more music for singles

>ok, thanks so much for this interview...im sorry if the questions were not so intellingent..but my english doesnt give me the possibility to make better than what i do.

im having fun with this interview.. good questions!

thanks dude, so tell me

Ed il disco "to fall"????
Per questa volta ci siamo dimenticati. D'altronde sta arrivando la primavera, c'è aria di cambiamento e di vita nuova. Nessuna caduta, per oggi, caro Scott.
